About Shelley Gupta

Shelley Gupta is a multidisciplinary entrepreneur, finance executive, recording artist, and philanthropist whose career bridges creativity, business, and community impact.

Born and raised in Toronto to immigrant parents from India, Shelley grew up at the intersection of culture, discipline, and expression. That duality has shaped a career defined by both analytical rigor and creative exploration, spanning music, real estate development, consumer products, and nonprofit leadership.

Business, Finance, and Entrepreneurship.

Shelley began her professional career in finance and real estate development, serving as Executive Director of Finance and Condo Development at Easton’s Group, a hospitality and real estate development firm. In this role, she worked across all stages of development, from financial modeling and design to construction and sales, contributing to the successful launch of major residential projects in downtown Toronto, including King Blue Condos and Dundas Square Gardens. These projects became among the fastest-selling condominium developments in the city at the time.

Shelley earned her Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Toronto, specializing in Management, Finance, and Economics, and later received her Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. Seeking to deepen her entrepreneurial and strategic expertise, she moved to Chicago to attend the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, where she focused on Entrepreneurship and Strategy.

After completing her MBA, Shelley joined Accenture Strategy as a business consultant, advising technology clients on growth strategy, operations, and transformation. This experience sharpened her ability to scale businesses, lead cross-functional teams, and translate vision into execution.

In 2022, Shelley was accepted into Techstars, one of the world’s leading startup accelerators, where she refined her business model, deepened customer discovery, and prepared BāKIT Box for market launch. Following the program, she officially launched BāKIT Box in 2023, a consumer-packaged goods company that combines baking, cultural education, and STEM learning for families. The company has since expanded nationwide through direct-to-consumer, retail, and education channels. More information can be found at www.bakitbox.com.

Music and Creative Roots.

Long before her career in business, Shelley was a performer.

She began singing at the age of six, performing in school choirs and training vocally throughout her childhood. By age eight, she had landed her first national television appearance, performing alongside Raffi on CBC’s The Rita MacNeil Show. Music quickly became a defining part of her identity.

Throughout high school and university, Shelley continued to train, perform, and audition. In 2007, she was named one of the Top 20 R&B singers by Toronto radio station Flow 93.5. Her momentum led to a recording deal with EMI Music Canada and CP Records, and in 2010 she released her debut single, “Crazy For You,” co-written with Juno Award–winning artist Belly. The song received national radio play, reaching the Top 10 most played tracks on Q103 in British Columbia and the Top 35 on Edmonton’s Hot 107.

Shelley’s music remains an important creative outlet and influence on her work. Her album is available to stream on all major streaming platforms and download on iTunes and Amazon.

Community and Nonprofit Work.

Shelley’s passion for music ultimately led her back to community impact.

Based in Chicago, she became deeply involved with Guitars Over Guns RISE, a nonprofit organization focused on reducing violence in under-served communities through music education and mentorship. Shelley served as President of the RISE program, helping expand access to instruments, instruction, and career guidance for middle and high school students. By combining her background in music and business leadership, she supports programming that empowers young people with creative skills, confidence, and opportunity.

In addition to her work with RISE, Shelley has volunteered with and supported numerous charitable organizations throughout her life.

Recognition, Media, and Public Speaking.

Shelley’s work across business, music, and community impact has been recognized by educational institutions and major media outlets in both Canada and the United States. She is a recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Bayview Glen Private School and has been featured in publications including the Toronto Star, the Chicago Tribune, and Chicago Inno. She has also appeared on national and regional television, including NBC California, FOX 32 Chicago, and the WGN Morning News.

Shelley was recently named a 40 Under 40 honoree by Business Elite, recognizing her leadership as a founder and executive building mission-driven companies at the intersection of culture, education, and commerce.

In addition to press and television, Shelley is a frequent guest on podcasts and speaking panels focused on entrepreneurship, consumer brands, creative careers, and social impact. She regularly shares candid insights on building values-driven businesses, navigating founder transitions, and blending creativity with operational discipline, drawing from her experience across music, consulting, and consumer-packaged goods.
